The Presence Of Bacteria In Infants’ Gastrointestinal Tract

In this study, we focus on investigating the carriage of spore-forming bacteria, anaerobic and aerobic, as well as antimicrobial resistant bacteria in stool samples of newborns and infants, in order to have a better point of view on the competitiveness among organisms living in the gastrointestinal tract of healthy children.

Infants’ gut microbiome, which is shaped by environmental contact during and after birth, may affect their development through impacts on the immune system. The acquisition of a certain organism could inhibit the intake of other bacteria. The antimicrobial resistant phenotype of the commensal bacteria could also be altered due to the antibiotic usage of children.
