Collab Lab is a co-creation platform that brings young people (as science communicators and audiences) and scientists together with three main goals:
To achieve these goals, the Collab Lab team collaborates with research scientists to create a series of short animation videos that summarise and explain research findings. The animation video production process consists of five stages, each requiring approval from scientists to ensure accuracy.
In addition to the animation videos, Collab Lab organises various online and offline activities to encourage feedback from young audiences once the videos are published. One of the standout events is the annual “Meet the Scientists” activity, which has become a key highlight of the Collab Lab programme.
ISA |
Isa is the video protagonist and mascot of the Collab Lab project. Their name is derived from the acronym of the Youth Science Ambassador (YSA) team, the origin of the project. Isa embodies the public engagement team, serving as the bridge between scientists and the public. Through Collab Lab, their mission is to make research more relevant and accessible to younger audiences by creating engaging and vibrant visual content. |
In 2024, the Collab Lab project continued with five research papers, led by a new team of 12 collaborators.
Driven by the desire to enhance the quality of the videos and reach a broader audience, the core team of Collab Lab recruited 12 collaborators from both health and social science backgrounds to provide support.
The expanded team continued producing six animation videos based on the same research topics, but with a focus on selecting those most relevant to the daily lives of the public.
Collab Lab was launched as an initiative by three members of the Youth Science Ambassadors, who came up with the idea of summarizing research papers through animation videos.
The team produced five animation videos that summarize scientific research on global health threats and organized the offline event “Meet the Scientists” to communicate the research and gather feedback from young audiences.
