Dr Bidhya Sharma has been serving as a Research Medical Officer at OUCRU Nepal since 2020. Her primary focus is on ICU and ward-related randomized controlled trials and surveillance programmes. She has contributed to the REGARD-VAP trial, which investigates the effectiveness of individualized short-course antibiotic treatment versus the traditional long-course treatment for ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). This multicenter, open-label, non-inferiority trial has provided valuable insights into antibiotic stewardship in critical care.
Currently, Dr Sharma is involved in ACORN-2 (A Clinically Oriented Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Network), a large-scale multicenter protocol aimed at building on the WHO Global Antimicrobial Resistance and Use Surveillance System. The study estimates syndromic and pathogen outcomes, as well as associated health economic costs. Additionally, she is working on the ACORN-HAI extension study, which focuses on healthcare-associated bloodstream infections and ventilator-associated pneumonia.
Dr Sharma holds an MBBS and a Master of Public Health (MPH).
