Enable school students to discover scientific work and life of OUCRU researchers through joyful, compelling, and engaging visits.

Scientific research takes place in every aspect of daily life. It brings about wonders by finding answers to problems, thus making our lives better. Therefore, the earlier children get involved in learning about research, the greater chance they have of taking action to build a better world. However, there are limited resources and opportunities given to school students in Vietnam to access to research models and authentic science at schools.

As a health sciences unit, OUCRU is keen to engage school and university students in our research and motivate this young generation to follow research as their career path. Our Science Visit project provides opportunities for students from Ho Chi Minh City and nearby provinces to participate in joyful, compelling, and engaging visits to OUCRU.

Key activities

Lab Tour

OUCRU researchers in the role of “Lab guides” will show students what is going on in OUCRU laboratories and explain some biomedical research currently underway.

Chat with scientists

Students will work in groups to collect information about recent biomedical issues relating to fields of the available research group, then raise questions to ease their concerns. This activity is to raise students’ awareness of some recent biomedical issues and emphasize the key role of scientists in finding solutions to public health crises.

Understanding OUCRU research methods

Students can learn about the clinical research process with scientists through lively and exciting role-playing games. They can also conduct experiments with scientists that describe the daily research work of scientists. In addition, in the event, students learn more about the microbial world around us through experiments.

Key Milestones

2024

After a long break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Science Visit is returning with an innovative approach. We not only welcome school students, but we also invite university students to our events. The participants will experience health science research in OUCRU through role-play activities, chat with the scientists, and join the lab tours.

2019

The year was full of the Science Visit events. There were 6 events, including 1 event for secondary school students, 4 for high school students, and 1 for OUCRU staff’s children. A total of around 80 school students and 20 scientists attended all the events.

2018

The first time Science Visit came to schools. From March to July 2018, 8 separate science visits were organised for secondary and highschools.

OUCRU scientists met and showed their research to students outside of OUCRU

2017

37 students, 5 teachers, and 7 scientists participated in the first version of Science Visit in 2017.
