Dr Lê Hồng Vân

Clinical Research Fellow

Le Hong Van, MD, MSc, PhD works on pleural diseases, tuberculosis and auto-immune diseases.

Her PhD Project at OUCRU studied the host determinants of treatment outcomes of multidrug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis. The incidence of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is increasing in Vietnam and worldwide. The mortality is still high despite a prolonged and expensive combination of drugs. Yet both the genetic and non-genetic determinants of treatment outcome remains poorly understood.

Her PhD project focused on the impacts of host inflammatory phenotypes regulated by leukotriene A4 hydrolase genotypes and comorbidities, including diabetes mellitus and vitamin D deficiency, on the treatment outcome of MDR-TB. A better understanding in the pathophysiology of MDR-TB might provide a foundation for comprehensive management and a novel personalized therapy.
